1. How long have you been racing?

Since 2008. I went to a vintage race in the mid 80’s in the Midwest with a neighbor and fell in love with it. I decided if we ever got to a point that we could afford it, that I had to do it! It took 25 years, but I finally bought a Cooper T-52 in ’07.

2.  What cars have you raced and what do you race now?

1960 Cooper T-52 Formula Junior (sold it)1963 Elva Mk 7 (sold it to Bobby Rahal, it was his fathers back in the day), 1967 Porsche 910 (still race it),1960 Porsche Roadster (still race it) and 1962 Lotus 22 Formula Junior (still race it)

3. What is your favorite track? What track is on your bucket list?

I love the technical aspects of Sears Point, the history of Laguna Seca, but I drove Road America a couple of years ago and it was epic…my new favorite and also the first race track my dad took me to in 1967 or 1968.

4. What do you love most about vintage racing?

The thrill of speed and racing against other drivers and cars is incredible. But the friendships my wife and I have developed are even better. It’s a real community.

5. What’s your favorite memory from a vintage race?

Road America last summer in the Porsche 910 was amazing. The track was incredible and the fans were so enthusiast and appreciative that I brought the car to the Midwest that it was really special. A fan who is a total Porsche fanatic sat in the 910 and had tears in his eyes, telling me, “I never thought I would actually be able to see, let alone sit in a 910.” Pretty cool.

6. Can you share something funny about one of your Huffaker racing mates?

The jokes never end. You have to check the body work on your car before you go out, because you never know what you might find taped on to it! (Baby on board, Objects appear closer than they are, Spins often without warning, etc.) It’s an amazing group.

7. What’s your favorite thing about vintage racing?

The people, cars and passion around this sport is as good as life gets.
